A factory worker and his young daughter Anna are living together in a dull miners village. The father brings color into their poverty-stricken life by telling fairy tales in which a princess plays the leading role. When one day the travelling prostitute Eef calls at the factory, the father yearns for her. Anna realizes there is more then one interpretation of princesses and loses all faith in her father's fairytale world, meaning the end of her childhood.
